Yorkshire is famous for lots of reasons but undoubtedly it is the people that shape Yorkshire today, as they have for generations.

Here at More Yorkshire we are working on a project to identify a list of icons, past and present that collectively symbolise Yorkshire and the people that make it what it is today.

As Paul Andrews, Editor of More Yorkshire explains, “Whether they are a sporting icon, a legend in the business world, a historical figure, a community leader or simply someone that goes over and beyond on a daily basis to make a difference to lives today, we want to hear from you to see who you think is worthy of inclusion in the list.”

“People are what create a place and influence its evolution and the way that it is thought about by others. Yorkshire has a great heritage and a great presence and we want to capture the individuals that have helped create the essence of what Yorkshire is today and how Yorkshire is considered by others – what names spring to mind when someone says Yorkshire to you?”
